2024 VBS VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

SCN VBS 2024
CHECKPOINT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
for Monday – Wednesday

VOLUNTEERS: No VBS is successful with out volunteers and we need your help during our 4 day VBS. Here is the description of each area where volunteers are needed. Please take the time and
decide where you can serve best. Then, check the box on the slip of paper, sign your name, let us know how many days you can help in that area, and then drop the slip in the offering plate or blessing box by the 30th of June. You can sign up for additional areas as long as it is before or after your choice.
TEAM LEADER: (NEED 2 VOLUTEERS) We have two teams that will be competing each day. One team will be called “Purple
Royals” and the other will be called “Orange Blossom”. A Team leader is a guide that takes the team players to each event and
helps encourage their team in what they are doing. The TEAM POINT CALCULATOR volunteers will be with you and your team at
all activities and events.
PRESCHOOL WORKER: We are advertising VBS for kids from the age of 5, if they have completed Kindergarten, to the
age of 12. Therefore, any children who have not completed Kindergarten will be in the Preschool program. They will be doing
everything the older kids are doing but on a smaller scale. This ministry is for all the preschoolers who attend the church on a
regular basis. Your responsibility will be to see that your kids get to each event.
MEMORY/MISSION CHECKPOINT: This activity is a part of the Monday-Wednesday schedule. You can stand or sit
during this activity. We will need you to hold up your checker flag and wave it so the kids can see where you are located. When
a child comes to you to say their verse, they will give you their piece of paper. You can coach them! If you have to coach them
too many times, have them try to say it again. Once they have said or tried to say it a couple of times, give them a “key” that we
will provide you. Help them hook it on their ring on their neck before they leave your CHEKPOINT. If they say it to you the first
time perfectly without any help, you can give them a bonus key.
CHECKPOINT WATER RELAY RACE: (16 volunteers) Sunday – Wednesday we will have the big race between teams.
We need you to pick one of the checkpoint spots on the track and have your phone or stopwatch available. When the team
player gets to your spot and gives the wagon handle to their teammate, start your stopwatch. The kids will have ONLY 15
seconds to put as many water bottles in their wagon as they can. Once the 15 seconds are up, no more water bottles can be
put in their wagon and encourage them to go to the next CHECKPOINT SPOT. (You only stand at that place until the wagon that
comes behind the players, stops to pick up the extra bottles.)
REGISTRATION & ATTENDANCE: (2-4 volunteers) You will be the one who makes sure every child fills
out their card or has an older sibling or parent fills out their card of information. Once their card has been
filled out, you will write their name on the attendance sheet and the Team Point Calculation sheet. (Place
every other kid on the Purple Team or Orange Team Point Calculation Sheet so that we have an even
amount competing.) Turn your sheets in to Pastor Ava when all have been registered for the day. Be sure
to count all adult/teen workers who are there Monday – Wednesday.
CLEAN UP CREW: We need volunteers to reset any chairs that have gotten out of line in the sanctuary,
wipe down tables, sweep the fellowship hall, collect all the trash in both buildings (including the
bathrooms) and put new liners in each night. Help bring the CHECKPOINT WATER RELAY RACE bottles
back up to the Fellowship Hall at the end of the race. (We also need your help setting out the waters
bottles & CHECKPOINT stakes at each station before the race.)

WE ARE IN NEED OF TWO WAGONS THAT ARE THE SAME SIZE.

WE NEED EMPTY WATER BOTTLES. PLEASE BRING YOUR EMPTY WATER BOTTLES IN A BAG.
WE NEED ALL EMPTY BOTTLES TO BE AT THE CHURCH BY SUNDAY, JUNE 30TH

We also need helpers on Saturday to volunteer to help at the different water stations, hand out flyers, and register children who will be attending our VBS.
