THE EVENT CHOIR
WHAT IS AN EVENT CHOIR?
Let’s start with the word, “choir”. A CHOIR is a group of individuals who enjoy singing with others. A CHOIR consist of more than four people. A CHOIR has a director. A CHOIR does not use microphones. AN EVENT CHOIR is a group of individuals who get together and work on special selections of music that Nikki Warren chooses for them to sing. They focus on special events throughout the year such as Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Father’s Day, and Thanksgiving. They also work on specials that can be sung on Sundays between each of these special events.
WHAT MAKES AN EVENT CHOIR DIFFERENT FROM A REGULAR CHURCH CHOIR?
A church choir can be seen every Sunday morning in the choir loft singing during the worship service as well as sharing a special. An Event Choir sings occasionally. They do not sing in a choir loft and they can be as small as a group of 8 and as large as 50 plus.
DO I HAVE TO BE A GREAT SINGER TO BE IN THE CHOIR?
Being a part of a choir does not mean that you have to be a trained vocal singer. It does not mean that you have to know how to read music or be able to play instruments. The quality of a good member is knowing how to follow a director. Learning the importance of being a follower, listening to the leader, and respecting the one who is leading the choir is the best quality of any one that desires to be choir member. When you are listening and following, it helps the leader to teach you exactly how he or she would like for the song to be sung. And when everyone is listening and following those directions, the choir has a great sound. So no you don’t have to be a great singer to be in a choir. You just have to be a great follower of the one who is leading.
WHEN DOES THE CHOIR MEET TO PRACTICE?
Each Wednesday, after Bible Study, the choir comes together to work on music for about an hour. Sometimes they get to start at 7:30 and other times they do not get started until 7:45. But no matter when they start, Nikki works hard to get done by 8:30.
Whenever the choir plans to sing on a particular Sunday, they will come together on a Friday evening or Saturday afternoon to run through the special a few times but that is the only time that she has practice other than Wednesday evening.
Nikki also contacts everyone through text messages to let them know when she has called for a special practice or has a song she wants you to listen and learn. That is why it is so important that she has your cell number. And she is great about making sure she has good communication with her choir members.
