Chili Challenge Fundraiser

Christmas comes once a year! It is one of the most loved seasons that we share together. It is the celebration of the birthday of our LORD and Savior. The Christmas carols never get old. The lights around the church brighten up the atmosphere. It is such a joyous time.

Many kids have Christmas, but there are just as many that don’t. We don’t know all the kids who will not know the joy of opening Christmas gifts. But, we want to help those that we do know.

As is the case in everything we want to do for others, it cost money. We have raised the money so many ways in the past. But this year, we decided to do something we have never done before. We are going to have a fundraiser.

Our team, came up with the idea of a Chili cookoff that we decided to change to A CHILI CHALLENGE. Then as we were sitting around the table talking about all the details, one took us back to a memory which included Murl Tedder. You see, Murl absolutely loved chili! And out of that few moments of remembering a generous and loving man, it was decided that we have the MURL TEDDER MEMORIAL CHILI CHALLENGE.

WHO CAN ENTER THE COMPETITION?

Anyone who believes that they make the BEST chili in SEARCY or WHITE COUNTY can enter this competition. All those who fill out an entry form must be willing to give a minimum donation of $25.00 to the SCN Children’s Christmas Fund. All entry forms must be turned in by Saturday, November 23rd. Entry forms are available at the Searcy Church of the Nazarene. Or you can text Pastor Ava @ 501-230-0063 and give her your information. She in return will see that an entry form is filled out for you and you can give your donation on the day of the Chili Challenge or the SCN online giving.

Those who enter, need to have your chili at the church and ready to eat by 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 24th.

WHO WILL BE THE JUDGES

Anyone, who is willing to donate $5.00 toward the SCN Children’s Christmas Fund, can be a judge. The judges will receive a muffin pan. They will receive a sample of chili from each chili bowl. After they have tasted each chili sample, they will check the one they believe to be the best. The contestant who received the most votes will win the challenge.

A BOWL OF CHILI

After all the judges have finished tasting their samples, the chili will be made available for everyone to eat. A donation basket or jar will be setting by the bowls and all we ask is that everyone donate a love offering to the SCN Children’s Christmas Fund before taking a bowl. If you are a family of 3 or more, please make sure your donation includes an offering from your children also. A suggestion would be to give your child/children an offering that they can put in the basket or jar too. This will help them feel that they are a part of help other kids have Christmas too.

WINNERS OF THE CHILI CHALLENGE

Everyone that enters is a winner because they have helped make Christmas special for a child. However, by popular vote of the judges, there will only be one 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place winners and the winners will receive Murl Tedder Memorial Chili Challenge 2024 aprons.

SIDES

We will have milk. crackers, and desserts.
